LOGIPIX
Version 1.0
Copyright (c) 1993 John Golden

Requirements: 100% IBM EGA/VGA GRAPHICS & MOUSE
Be sure your mouse driver is installed before executing this program.
Object:
Logically fill in the squares to form a picture.
Playing the Game:
The numbers to the left of each row indicate the number of dark blue
squares that should be placed in that row. The numbers above each
column indicate the number of dark blue squares that should be
placed in that column. A single number (such as 10) means there will be
one set of ten blue squares in that row or column. Numbers separated
by commas (such as 5, 10, 3) means there will be three groups of dark
blue squares, of (in order) 5 squares, 10 squares and 3 squares.
When numbers are separated by commas above a row, the top number
represents the topmost group of dark blue squares in that row, etc.
Groups of dark blue squares must be separated by at least one white
square (unless the group of dark blue squares ends at the edge of the
puzzle).
The left mouse button places a dark blue square on the grid. If a
dark blue square is clicked on with the left mouse button it reverts
back to its starting color (in case of mistakes).
The right mouse button places a white square on the grid. White squares
should be placed in places on the grid where you know a dark blue square
cannot go (for instance, if the numbers to the left of a row indicate
that the row contains one group of three, and you have deduced where
the three dark blue squares belong, the rest of the row should be
filled with white squares). If a white square is clicked on with
the left mouse button it reverts back to its starting color (in case
of mistakes).
The puzzles are solved with logical thinking. For instance, since the
rows and columns are each 25 squares long, and a clue given for a row
is 20, you know that all but five squares of that row must be changed
to dark blue, and that these 20 dark blue squares must be contiguous.
This also tells you that 5 of the squares in this row must be white,
and that they, too, must be contiguous. Though at this point you
do not yet know where the 20 dark blue squares begin and end, you
can deduce that, for a block of 20 contiguous dark blue squares to
fit in a row with a maximum width of 25 squares, the middle 15
squares in the row must be dark blue. No matter where you place the
20 dark blue squares, the middle 15 in the row will have to be
dark blue! Play with it a while and you'll see...
Buttons:
The ARROW button moves you forward to the next puzzle (there are five
puzzles numbered 1-5). After 5 it cycles back to puzzle 1.
Any work you have done on the current puzzle will be lost when you
advance to the next puzzle unless you press the SAVE button first.
The SAVE button saves your work on the current puzzle to disk in the
current directory. You can have one save file for each of the five
puzzles; if one exists for that puzzle when you try to save it again
the old save file is overwritten. The save files are PUZ1.SAV
through PUZ5.SAV. You can continue a saved puzzle later with the
LOAD button. Simply use the ARROW key to advance to the puzzle
number which you previously saved and press the LOAD button.
The CLEAR button clears the current grid. The STOP button exits
to DOS, so SAVE before STOPing if you want to finish your puzzle
later.
Ordering additional puzzles:
If you order additional puzzles I will send you the "pro" version
of Logipix without the "nag" screens as well as the new puzzles.
There are three registration levels-- see "ORDER.FRM" for details.
Solutions are also available. This software has not been "crippled"
in any way. I thought you'd want it that way.
Miscellaneous:
If you wish to create the right puzzle-solving environment and
prefer alternative music, try these CDs: Matthew Sweet's "Altered
Beast", Paul Westerberg's "14 Songs" and The Waterboys' "Dream Harder".
I listened to them extensively while programming and playtesting this
software.
Enjoy!
